Court remands Chinese businessman over alleged GH¢3m T-shirt theft
Chinese businessman Evan Yung, 36, has been remanded into police custody after being accused of stealing 440 bundles of T-shirts valued at GH¢3 million.
What began as a request to watch over a warehouse while a business colleague travelled abroad has ended in a criminal case before an Accra Circuit Court.
Chinese businessman Evan Yung, 36, has been remanded into police custody after being accused of stealing 440 bundles of T-shirts valued at GH¢3 million.
He has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The case centres on a warehouse at Fadama in Accra, where the goods were allegedly kept before the complainant travelled to China in May 2025 to care for his sick mother.
Chief Inspector Wisdom Alorwu told the court that before leaving Ghana, the complainant, also a Chinese national living at Osu, placed the warehouse under Yung’s care.
For several months, the goods remained in Yung’s custody.
But when the complainant returned to Ghana in November 2025, the T-shirts were allegedly no longer in the warehouse.
According to the prosecution, Yung explained that he had sold the items to some customers, but said those customers had failed to pay.
The complainant reportedly gave him time to recover the money.
After weeks passed without payment or the return of the goods, he lodged a complaint with the police.
Investigators later arrested Yung.
The prosecution said he admitted in his caution statement that he had taken responsibility for the missing goods.
The court ordered his remand while the case proceeds.
