The High Court, Industrial and Labour Division 2, in Accra, has granted the National Labour Commission (NLC) permission to serve an interlocutory injunction on the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) through substituted means.

This ruling, delivered by Justice Priscilla Dikro Ofori, comes after the NLC filed a motion on June 10, explaining difficulties in directly serving the GRNMA with a court order issued earlier on June 5. The order is part of an ongoing legal standoff between the nurses' union and the government over employment conditions.

In response, the court outlined alternative service methods. The injunction notice will be displayed on the High Court's notice board and affixed to the main entrance of the GRNMA headquarters. In addition, electronic versions of the notice are to be sent via WhatsApp to the Association’s President, Perpetual Ofori Ampofo, and its General Secretary, David Tenkorang-Twum.

Per the court’s directive, the substituted service will be considered officially completed 14 days after the postings, ensuring that the GRNMA is legally deemed to have received notice of the injunction.

The legal development adds a new layer to the already tense negotiations between the government and the GRNMA, as talks over salary structures and working conditions remain deadlocked. The injunction seeks to prevent any industrial action while the matter is before the courts.
