Court orders reinstatement of Bolgatanga Technical University Vice-Chancellor
Prof. Alnaa and the two officers had challenged actions taken by the University Council after an investigation into alleged procurement breaches and financial mismanagement.
The Bolgatanga High Court has ordered the reinstatement of the Vice-Chancellor of Bolgatanga Technical University, Prof. Samuel Erasmus Alnaa, and two other senior officers.
The court held that the decisions leading to their removal from office were unlawful.
Prof. Alnaa and the two officers had challenged actions taken by the University Council after an investigation into alleged procurement breaches and financial mismanagement.
The matter involved allegations relating to GH¢27 million for the supply of computers, furniture, printers and other items.
The University Council had set up a five-member committee to investigate the allegations before the affected officers were removed from office.
But the court found that the Council did not form the required quorum when it took the decisions that resulted in their removal.
It also ruled that the Special Investigative Committee set up by the Council was illegally constituted.
On that basis, the court held that the removal of Prof. Alnaa and the two senior officers was illegal.
The court granted the applicants’ request for certiorari and quashed the Council’s decisions.
It also granted the other reliefs sought by the applicants.
Prof. Alnaa and the two officers are therefore expected to return to office.
Reacting to the ruling, Prof. Alnaa described the judgment as a major development for the University.
He said the decision is expected to restore stability to the administration of Bolgatanga Technical University and bring relief to staff and students.
