A 20-year-old man, Alex Cobbina, has been sentenced to three years in prison by an Accra Circuit Court for impersonating a military officer and illegally possessing military uniforms and related items.
Cobbina gained attention after posting a video on TikTok in which he wore a camouflage trouser and a naval vest, falsely claiming to be a member of the military.
The Ghana Armed Forces, upon noticing the video, issued a statement confirming that the Ghana Navy had tracked Cobbina's posts, which included inappropriate remarks about the military.
Additionally, Cobbina made comments about a statement from former President John Dramani Mahama regarding the dismissal of recruits who had entered the military through special protocols. Prior to his arrest and subsequent prosecution, Cobbina worked as a washing bay attendant in the Central Region.
The court also imposed a GH¢12,000 fine on Cobbina.
