An Accra Circuit Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Lukeman Abdul-Karim, a 27-year-old businessman, after he failed to appear in court to answer charges of defrauding by false pretence.
Presiding Judge Samuel Bright Acquah granted the prosecution’s request for the warrant after Abdul-Karim was absent when the case was called. The matter has been adjourned to June 16, 2025.
According to court documents, Abdul-Karim allegedly posed as a forex bureau operator and convinced a fellow businessman, Daniel Attah, that he could provide CFA currency in exchange for Ghana cedis.
In January 2025, Attah reportedly transferred GH₵149,000 to Abdul-Karim in anticipation of receiving the CFA equivalent. However, the promised currency never materialized, and Abdul-Karim allegedly began offering excuses.
Frustrated by the delay and unfulfilled promise, Attah reported the matter to the police on January 25, 2025. Abdul-Karim was subsequently arrested and, during the course of investigations, managed to refund only GH₵20,000 of the total amount.
The court is now seeking Abdul-Karim’s immediate arrest to compel him to face trial.
