Court halts operation of three information centres over noise pollution
The directive mandates that their operations remain suspended until the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) evaluates their noise levels and grants approval for them to resume broadcasting.

A District Court in Kade, Eastern Region, has granted an ex-parte injunction temporarily shutting down three media outlets in Asuom.
The directive mandates that their operations remain suspended until the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) evaluates their noise levels and grants approval for them to resume broadcasting.
The injunction stems from a lawsuit filed by local traditional leaders—Nana Boadi Amponim Obodade III (Krontihene of Asuom), Nana Deibour II (Kyidomhene of Asuom), and Abusuapanin Abosi Aniagyei—against Esewani Radio, Esewani Information Centre, and Sir Plans Information Centre.
The plaintiffs accuse these media houses of excessive noise pollution, which they claim disrupts public peace and negatively impacts residents.
In their petition, they seek a court order enforcing compliance with local regulations governing information centers.
After reviewing the case on March 4, 2025, the court ruled in favor of the applicants, emphasizing the urgency of addressing the issue while ensuring a fair balance between the rights of both parties.
The injunction, valid for ten days, may be extended upon further legal request. Additionally, the plaintiffs have filed a civil summons urging the court to compel the defendants to adhere to regulatory standards for media operations in Asuom. They are also seeking further legal remedies and compensation for litigation costs.
