A 79-year-old retired teacher, Alhaji Seidu Abagre, has been granted bail by the High Court in Accra in a case where he is accused of presenting himself as a chief in Bawku without proper authority.
The court set bail at GH¢100,000 with two sureties, after an application by his lawyers.
As part of the conditions, Abagre must report to the National Intelligence Bureau twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays. He has also been told not to travel outside the court’s jurisdiction.
The judge further directed that he must not present himself, or allow anyone to present him, as a traditional leader while the case is ongoing.
The prosecution was also ordered to ensure Abagre receives medical attention.
He is facing charges including acting as a chief without qualification, provocation of riot, offensive conduct likely to breach the peace, and fighting with weapons.
