Court fixes July 10 for habeas corpus application over Hanan Abdul-Wahab’s detention

The continued detention of former National Food Buffer Stock Company Chief Executive Officer, Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, is set to come before the Accra High Court on Friday, July 10.

His lawyer, Godfred Yeboah Dame, says the court has fixed the date to hear a habeas corpus application challenging the legal basis for keeping his client in custody.

The application is asking the court to compel the Director of the Bureau of National Intelligence and the Attorney-General to produce Mr Aludiba before the court.

It is also seeking an order requiring the state to justify why he remains detained.

Mr Aludiba was arrested at the Accra International Airport on Saturday, July 4, 2026.

He was reportedly preparing to travel for a medical appointment abroad after the High Court had granted him permission to leave the country.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Monday, July 6, Mr Dame said the habeas corpus application had been moved on notice.

He, however, said the July 10 date was too far, given the nature of the complaint.

According to him, the legal team will apply for the hearing date to be brought forward.

Mr Dame argued that his client’s continued detention without being taken before a court raises serious human rights concerns.

He also complained that Mr Aludiba had not been given proper access to his lawyers.

The former Attorney-General further argued that the authorities had failed to charge Mr Aludiba or file any formal process to justify the arrest and detention.

He said that failure suggested there was no lawful basis for stopping him from travelling in the first place.

Mr Dame also criticised the earlier claims made by Deputy Attorney-General Dr Justice Srem-Sai regarding the arrest.

He said the allegations appeared aimed at preventing the execution of the court order that had allowed Mr Aludiba to travel.

The habeas corpus application adds another legal layer to the dispute over the airport arrest.

Mr Aludiba is currently standing trial over alleged financial offences linked to his time as Chief Executive Officer of the National Food Buffer Stock Company.

He has denied the allegations against him.
