The National Democratic Congress has been slapped with a fine of GHS4000 by the Wenchi High Court as punishment for delaying court proceedings, at the case management conference of the election petition against the Techiman South parliamentary polls.

The NDC candidate for the Techiman South constituency, Christopher Beyere Baasongti sued the Electoral Commission and the MP for the area, Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah in the aftermath of the election.

In the suit brought against the said parties, the NDC candidate prayed the court to annul the declaration of Mr. Korsah as the winner of the election.

During the case management conference held on Tuesday, 22 June 2021, however, the petitioner informed the court of a decision to amend the title of his suit.

According to a report filed by Accra-based Citi News, the court “partially granted the petitioner’s motions to amend the title of his suit to stat that “no proper collation” was done in the 2020 Techiman South Parliamentary Elections, among one other relief.”

The court however weighed a fine of GHS7000 against the petitioner for delaying the activities of the court. The fine was subsequently reduced to GHS4000 after legal arguments were advanced.

The hearing of the case has since been adjourned to June 30, 2020.
