Court dismisses motion seeking to injunct Black Sheriff
Per the said contract, Black Sheriff was required to carry on all his business activities through the plaintiff’s company.
A High Court in Accra has dismissed an application that sought to injunct Ghanaian fast-rising musician, Black Sheriff from performing his songs at various fora and shows pending the determination of the matters in the substantive suit.
The suit, filed by the CEO of Waynes Chavis Consult, Shadrach Agyei Owusu who is a former financier of the artist, accused the artist of allegedly neglecting him after he injected funds into his music career and instead signed a distribution deal with Empire Music without seeking his consent despite their Business management contract.
Per the said contract, Black Sheriff was required to carry on all his business activities through the plaintiff’s company.
The writ of summons dated April 11, 2022, also sought the appointment of a receiver to receive all funds that may accrue to the artist from the use and exploitation of his music and image until the final determination of the matters in dispute and on the grounds contained in the supporting affidavit.
When the case was called on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 counsel for the artist, opposed and duly argued against the suit and claims for the injunction.
On its part, the court upheld the arguments of the defendant’s counsel, noting that the plaintiff had failed to convince the court why the injunction should be granted against the artist.
