The Takoradi Harbour Circuit Court A has discharged Abdul Mumin Issah, the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Sekondi-Takoradi of charges relating to assault of a public officer, offensive conduct and dangerous driving.

This comes after the police prosecutor, Superintendent Stephen Billy Addum filed a case of no interest in the matter, thereby withdrawing the charges.

Mr. Abdul Mumin Issah was arrested on February 3, over an incident of dangerous driving and verbal assault of a police officer, Superintendent Andrew Sarfo near a Polic Checkpoint.

In a leaked audio that circulated on social media, the MCE was heard insulting a police officer and threatening him with a transfer.

He was then granted a GHC 100,000 bail the same day.

The incident led to his suspension, on orders of the President for an inquiry into the matter.

However, on August 30, 2022, President Nana Akufo-Addo reinstated Abdul Mumin Issah as the Mayor of Sekondi-Takoradi.

A letter dated August 30, 2022, and signed by the Minister of Local Government, Dan Botwe, stated that action to reinstate the MCE was in response to recommendations made by the Western Regional Coordinating Council, which gave approval for the reinstatement of Mr. Abdul Mumin Issah.

“I wish to inform you that H.E the President of the Republic, in response to recommendations by the Western Regional Coordinating Council has given approval for the reinstatement of Mr Abdul Mumin Issah as the Metropolitan Chief Executive for the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly,” it said.
