Court adjourns VEMAG–DVLA case after new defendant fails to show up
When the matter came up on 6 February, Justice Isaac Addo noted that Original Manufacturers and Embossment Company Limited, now listed as the second defendant, was absent together with its lawyers.
The Accra High Court has adjourned the case between the Vehicle Embossment Manufacturers Association of Ghana (VEMAG) and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to Friday, 13 February 2026, after the company recently added to the suit failed to show up.
When the matter came up on 6 February, Justice Isaac Addo noted that Original Manufacturers and Embossment Company Limited, now listed as the second defendant, was absent together with its lawyers.
VEMAG’s lawyer, Martin Kpebu, told the court the plaintiffs needed time to serve the new party with a hearing notice so the court could properly hear the pending motion with everyone present.
Lawyer for the DVLA, Alexander Adjei, holding brief for Sibiri Edmond Kardiri, attended the sitting.
The judge granted the short adjournment and ordered that the second defendant must be served before the next hearing.
Why VEMAG is in court
VEMAG is challenging the DVLA over the rollout of a new vehicle number plate system and the decision to award both the manufacture and embossment of the plates to one company.
The court had earlier allowed the joinder of Original Manufacturers and Embossment Company Limited as a second defendant, a move that was not opposed. VEMAG was then directed to amend its writ and serve all court processes on the newly joined party.
