Construction of Law House to be completed end of 2022 – President Akufo-Addo
"Work on the project had stopped many years ago. I am glad to say not only has the project been resurrected, I am told it is expected to be completed by the end of this year."
The President, Nana Akufo-Addo has announced that construction works on a long-awaited Law House edifice is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
“Some of you might remember that work began some twenty years ago on the construction of a Law House, a proposed new office accommodation for the Office of Attorney-General and Ministry of Justice, a 12-storey edifice consisting of ten (10) floors above ground and two (2) storeys underground. Work on the project had stopped many years ago. I am glad to say not only has the project been resurrected, I am told it is expected to be completed by the end of this year,” he said.
The President stated this while delivering the State of the Nations Address at the floor of Parliament, today March 30, 2022.
The news may not have come as a surprise. The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, while on a recent visit to agencies under his ministry, hinted of the same.
“The building in which they operate is in dilapidation virtually. So part of the processes to ensure we have a modern Attorney-General’s office fit for purpose is what I have undertaken to do, to ensure that we complete the facilities that are at our disposal,” Mr. Dame said when he toured offices of the Council for Law Reform Commission and the Legal Aid Commission.
President Akufo-Addo also mentioned that 22 new townhouses are being constructed at Danyame, in Kumasi, “to address accommodation challenges facing Court of Appeal Judges assigned to the Northern Sector.”
Members of the judiciary are further expected to benefit from 121 residential units, which the President Nana Akufo-Addo says are being built across the country.
“We have embarked on a project to provide one hundred (100) courthouses and accompanying residences for judges and magistrates around the country. Fifty of them are being built and are near completion, and should be handed over to the Judiciary soon.”
In total, about 200 structures are being built for the Judiciary.
