American R&B artist Chris Brown has been formally charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, according to the UK’s Metropolitan Police.

The 36-year-old musician was taken into custody in Manchester during the early hours of Thursday following his arrest at a local hotel. He remains detained and is scheduled to make his first court appearance at Manchester Magistrates' Court on Friday.
Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London North, Adele Kelly, confirmed the charge under section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861.
