The St. Giles Center at East Airport became a hub of innovation and inspiration as it hosted the Child-In-Tech Conference 2025, an event aimed at introducing children to the exciting world of technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI).

Bringing together a diverse mix of mentors, volunteers, exhibitors, and speakers, the conference featured representatives from MTN and TapTap Send, who served as sponsors and shared their insights and experiences with the young audience.

The event commenced with a welcoming address by Akua Otubea Essah, CEO of Child-In-Tech, who underscored the importance of early exposure to technology. She emphasized that introducing children to tech at a young age can spark their curiosity and inspire them to become future innovators and industry leaders.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Rose-Mary Owusuaa Gyening highlighted the many benefits of technology, including its role in expanding educational access, enhancing healthcare, and creating economic opportunities. However, she also cautioned the children about potential digital risks such as cyberbullying and online harassment. "As you explore the world of technology, always remember to be responsible and respectful online," she advised.

Mr. Darryl Mawutor Abraham, Growth Director for Africa at TapTap Send, engaged the children in a hands-on session about AI and its real-world applications. He explained how AI is revolutionizing various industries, including healthcare, finance, and transportation, and demonstrated how it can be harnessed to tackle global challenges like climate change and poverty. "AI is a powerful tool for positive change, but it is up to us to use it wisely," he noted.

Representatives from MTN were also present to mentor the children, offering insights into how the company leverages technology to provide telecommunications services to millions across Ghana. They emphasized the importance of innovation and customer service in shaping the tech industry. "At MTN, we are committed to using technology to positively impact lives," they shared.

Renowned journalist and Citi FM’s morning show host, Mr. Bernard Avle, delivered an inspiring speech, urging the children to pursue their dreams with passion and dedication. He stressed the significance of perseverance, focus, and continuous learning. "Believe in yourself, stay determined, and always be eager to learn," he encouraged. He also advised them to cultivate strong leadership and interpersonal skills to succeed in the future.

The conference showcased exhibits from ten organizations, featuring the latest technological advancements. The children actively engaged with exhibitors asked insightful questions, and explored innovations firsthand. Their enthusiasm and curiosity underscored a growing interest in technology among young Ghanaians.

One of the attendees, a 12-year-old boy from a local school, said, "I never knew technology could be so cool! I want to learn more about coding and robotics."

Another attendee, a 10-year-old girl, said, "I was inspired by the women who spoke at the conference. They showed me that girls can be tech leaders too."

With the participation of 15 mentors, 25 volunteers, and over 500 attendees, the Child-In-Tech Conference 2025 was a tremendous success, reinforcing the power of community collaboration in nurturing future tech leaders.
