The Chief Justice has been petitioned against presenting former SRC president of the Ghana School of Law (GSL), Mr. Wonder Kutor at tomorrow's mini-Call to the Bar.

According to the petition dated May 2, 2023, the complainant, (who identifies as a concerned citizen), notes that Wonder Kutor has “shown himself as someone not fit to be called to the Bar" following issues of misconduct during his tenure as SRC president.

Kutor was in 2022 interdicted and later impeached after a committee found him culpable for misappropriating funds during his tenure as SRC president. Particularly, he was found to have placed himself in a conflict of interest position, when he acted as seller and buyer in the sale of a Toyota Corolla vehicle to the GSL-SRC, as well as running an SRC-owned Mobile Money business with his company name and diverting revenue from the business for his personal use.

In the petition, the complainant also maintains that Kutor dented the name of the Ghana School of Law, the General Legal Council, and the Legal profession when he “seemingly issued threatening statements” against the Registrars of the Ghana School of Law in interviews granted to Citi FM on April 12, 2022.

“He issued unfounded statements against their person and dragged former Director of the Ghana School of Law into his mess. He engaged on other media tour and defamed fellow students. Mr. Kutor further tarnished the image of the Ghana School of Law at a time where the school had entreated students not to engage the media," parts of the petition reads.

The petition further mentions that Kutor, at some point on December 19, 2022, used the official social media accounts of the GSL SRC to promote partisan politics.

“Character, integrity, and high morals are very essential to becoming a lawyer in Ghana and therefore Mr. Kutor is not fit to be called to the bar.”

The petitioner additionally wants an investigation into the reports made against Kutor with sanctions applied where appropriate.
