A former secretary of the now-defunct Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), alongside Andy Owusu, an aide to Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, have been granted bail by the High Court (Criminal Division) in Accra following their arraignment on multiple corruption-related charges.

The two appeared before the court on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, after being charged by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) with a total of 15 offences linked to alleged bribery and abuse of office. Their pleas were formally recorded during the brief court session.

Presiding over the matter, the court admitted both men to bail in the sum of GH₵200,000 each, requiring two sureties per individual. At least one of the sureties must be justified.

The case has been scheduled for a Case Management Conference (CMC) on May 29, 2025. This procedural hearing will help outline key issues, exchange evidence between parties, and establish timelines for the trial.

The OSP’s charges stem from events that allegedly occurred between January and February 2019. According to the prosecution, Charles Bissue, while serving as IMCIM Secretary, accepted bribes totaling GH₵35,000 from one Benjamin Adjapong. The payments were allegedly made both directly and through Owusu to expedite the renewal of a lapsed mining licence for ORR Resources Enterprise—despite the absence of proper documentation.

Legal representatives for both accused parties declined to speak to the media after the court proceedings.
