Mr. Baffoe was earlier arrested in February over comments he made that former President John Dramani Mahama is planning to stage a coup.
The Accra Circuit Court hearing the case in which the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe Abronye was held for the publication of false news and offensive misconduct has struck out the charges.
The Court presided over by Adeliade Abui Keddy struck out the charges over the unreadiness of the prosecution to move forward with the case.
Mr. Baffoe was earlier arrested in February over comments he made that former President John Dramani Mahama is planning to stage a coup.
He was granted a GHC 100, 000 bail the following day, and the prosecution has since failed to file disclosures and witness statements.
After temporarily adjourning the matter on Thursday, July 7, 2022, due to the absence of the lead prosecutor, the court was later informed that the prosecutor was on admission at the Police Training School and was therefore unavailable.
They additionally asked for extra time, to file disclosures and replace the lead prosecutor.
Dismissing the case, the judge held that the prosecution had failed to comply with all court proceedings and discharged Abronye DC. The court had on a number of times warned the prosecution to file their disclosures.
Mr. Baffoe also took to his social media confirming his acquittal. On Facebook, he wrote, “The Accra Circuit Court has struck out the matter between the Republic (Dampare) Vrs Kwame Baffoe Abronye. The circuit court 8 dismissed the matter in its entirety.”
