The Minority caucus in Ghana’s Parliament is demanding a probe into the conduct of the First Deputy Speaker and MP for Bekwai, Joe Osei Owusu, which led to the last Wednesday chaos in the House while superintending as Acting Speaker.

According to the Minority, the conduct of the Deputy Speaker undermines the standing orders of Parliament.

This comes after calls by the First Deputy Speaker for disciplinary sanctions against Minority MPs captured in a viral video causing chaos in the House.

On December 1, 2021, chaos erupted in the Parliament of Ghana with a confrontation between both sides after First Deputy Speaker, Joe Osei- Wusu rejected a motion by the Minority side for a vote to overturn the approval of the 2022 Budget by an only Majority side presided over by the First Deputy Speaker.

Earlier, a week before that, an only Minority House presided over by the Speaker of Parliament, had voted to reject the 2022 Budget.

Speaking on Midday News on JoyFm, Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu, Hon. A.B.A Fuseini insists the Deputy Speaker has brought the standing orders into disrepute and ought to answer.

“I say if there is one person, whose conduct has brought the House into this level of disrepute, it’s him. He has to answer squarely for the flagrant manner in which he has thrown the standing orders and rules of the house into disrepute,” he noted.
