The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor is poised to avert a potential suit by an Australian Mining Company, Cassius Mining against the Government of Ghana in a London Court.

There had been wide reports about the operations of Cassius Mining Limited in Ghana and the alleged trespass on their concession by Shaanxi Mining Limited which Cassius accuses the Government of looking on while its concessions trespassed.

Further to the above, it had been reported widely in the Australian Media that Cassius had noted per a document served on Government that it failed to provide for them any protection irrespective of its knowledge of Shaaxi’s illegal operations on its assets.

However, a joint statement released after an engagement between the Natural Resources Minister, Minerals Commission Boss, and the Company in Australia, notes that “the purpose of the meeting was to engage Cassius on the matters contained in the widely circulated media reports on a without prejudice basis” and that the meeting was very cordial.

Additionally, both parties have agreed to further engage on all matters in controversy with the aim of finding an amicable solution.

Moreover, the statement notes that Minister will in the coming days engage officials of Shaanxi and other related parties and that the said meeting and its outcome including the statement are without prejudice to the respective rights of either party or any intended and/or pending litigation.
