A 23-year-old cashier has been sentenced to three months imprisonment with hard labour by the Kaneshie District Court One after confessing to stealing GH¢8,575 from his employer to gamble.

The convict, Andy Tetteh, pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted on his own admission. The court handed down the sentence after hearing how he diverted company funds for personal betting activities and lost the entire amount.

According to Police Chief Inspector Achana Apewah, the complainant, Mr. Teye Simon Kwabla, is the manager of Bingo Bets located at Ecomog, Adabraka. Tetteh, who also resides in Ecomog, worked as a cashier at the betting company.

On April 30, 2025, Tetteh collected GH¢8,575 in cash from customers placing bets at the outlet but failed to account for the money. Suspicious of his conduct, the manager reported the matter to the police.

Investigations revealed that Tetteh had used the full amount for betting purposes but lost the entire sum. He was subsequently arrested, charged with theft, and brought before the court for prosecution.

The court sentenced Tetteh to serve three months in prison with hard labour as punishment for his actions.
