Police in Cape Coast have disrupted a suspected smuggling ring operating out of Elmina, arresting two individuals believed to be linked to a broader network involved in the illegal export of cocoa beans and narcotics to neighboring countries.

The arrests were made on Sunday, June 8, 2025, following targeted intelligence operations by the Cape Coast police’s special investigations unit. The suspects—identified as Andy Kwofie and Francis Armah—were apprehended in the middle of an active smuggling run.

According to a police statement, Kwofie was intercepted while driving a Hyundai truck, bearing registration number CR-726-25, loaded with 250 bags of cocoa beans. During initial questioning, he identified Armah as the intended recipient of the cargo, allegedly responsible for coordinating its onward transportation beyond Ghana’s borders.

The seized vehicle is currently impounded at the regional police headquarters, while both suspects remain in custody to aid ongoing investigations.

Police say efforts are underway to dismantle the entire syndicate, which is believed to be involved not only in cocoa smuggling but also in the trafficking of illegal drugs. Authorities have promised further updates as the investigation progresses.
