The Madina District Court has denied bail to businessman Daniel Owusu Koranteng, who is facing legal proceedings in connection with the 2019 murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Hussein Suale. The decision to remand him into custody until April 17, 2025, follows the prosecution’s amendment of the charges brought against him.

Appearing for the second time before the Madina District Court 2 on Wednesday, April 2, Koranteng faced new charges of abetment of crime and murder. Initially charged with murder, the amended charges now suggest he collaborated with two other individuals—currently at large—to carry out the killing of the late journalist.

The court, presided over by Judge Susana Nyakotey, heard arguments from both the prosecution and defence, but did not take a plea from the accused.

Koranteng's lawyer told the court that his client has been in police custody since March 12, 2025, after responding to a police invitation, and has not been granted bail despite the lack of evidence directly linking him to the crime. The defence appealed to the court to safeguard the accused from what they described as the "coercive powers" of law enforcement.

Presenting the revised facts of the case, Chief Inspector Nana Afua Bamfoa Bamfo, who led the prosecution, revealed that both Koranteng and the deceased were former associates at Tiger Eye P.I., a private investigative firm headed by renowned journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas. At the time of the events, Koranteng also served as the Managing Director of ISPY Company Limited.

The prosecution detailed that tensions between Koranteng and Suale escalated in June 2018, shortly after former MP Kennedy Agyapong broadcast images of Suale on NET2 TV, urging the public to take action against him. Suale reportedly suspected that Koranteng had leaked those images and confronted him via WhatsApp.

Suale was gunned down on January 16, 2019, near his residence in Madina. According to investigators, Koranteng allegedly guided the two other suspects to Suale's residence before and after the fatal shooting. After the murder, he reportedly fled from Madina to Amasaman and later left Ghana entirely, relocating to the UK.

Further inquiries revealed that Koranteng declined an invitation from the police and even attempted to conceal his identity by using another person’s national ID card to re-register his mobile SIM card.

He was eventually apprehended in Amasaman on March 15, 2025, after returning to Ghana. During questioning, he admitted to having a relationship with Kennedy Agyapong and acknowledged visiting the MP's home. While he confirmed taking pictures with Suale, he denied distributing them to anyone.

The prosecution said investigations are still underway to locate and arrest the two other suspects involved in the case.
