Businessman bailed GHC100,00 for trafficking Nigerians to Ghana
Bright, facing five counts of human trafficking, pleaded not guilty. According to prosecutors, he lured the victims, aged between 19 and 25, with promises of decent employment but later forced them into online romance scams.
A 30-year-old Nigerian businessman, Obasuyi Efosa Bright, has been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court on allegations of trafficking five compatriots into Ghana under the guise of offering them jobs.
Bright, facing five counts of human trafficking, pleaded not guilty. According to prosecutors, he lured the victims, aged between 19 and 25, with promises of decent employment but later forced them into online romance scams.
The court, in the presence of his lawyer, granted him bail of GHC100,000 with two sureties and directed him to report to the police twice monthly. Prosecutors were also instructed to serve disclosures on the defence.
Investigators revealed that on August 21, 2025, the Cybercrime Unit of the CID and operatives of the Cyber Security Authority raided a three-bedroom house at Adom Estates, Tema Community 25. They discovered Bright with five other Nigerians and six laptops connected to the internet, allegedly being used to defraud unsuspecting victims through the Korean application BAND.
Police say Bright acted as the leader of the syndicate, deceiving the victims into Ghana only to exploit them for cyber fraud. The laptops have been sent to the Forensic Laboratory for analysis, while the rescued victims are being sheltered in a safe location as investigations continue.
