The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor has written to the Attorney General seeking advice on sanctions recommended by the sole Commissioner tasked to investigate the matter.

A retired judge Kwasi Anto Ofori-Atta was appointed sole Inquirer by the Minister of Lands, Abu Jinapor following a media uproar on the demolition of the Bulgarian Embassy by a private developer.

Inaugurating the Sole Inquirer on March 18, 2022, the Minister noted that the Government had no hand in the demolition exercise and thus tasked justice to do a full investigation into the matter.

The sole inquirer was given seven days within which to present his findings and one month to present his report on the said land issues and their effect on diplomatic relations.

It was revealed that the Lands Commission had ordered the developer to stop on redevelopment project ongoing on the site but proved futile.

In his 149 pages report, the Sole Inquirer into the demolition of the Embassy’s building has made a recommendation for sanctions to be meted out to the private developer and due compensation also made to the Embassy.

However, the Minister on his part believes that the recommendation is fraught with legal ramifications and thus has written to the AG for directions in that regard.

In his response to the receipt of the report, the Minister indicated in a statement the Government’s acceptance of the report and pledged his readiness to find an amicable solution to the issue.

Additionally, he noted that his outfit has duly ordered the Lands Commission not to recognize or register any transaction on the said land until the court case is determined.

Even though the Minister says he is ready to use his office to find an amicable solution to the dispute, his outfit will abide by whatever comes out of the case if the mediation proves futile.
