The Bawjiase District Police Command has arrested four military officers and two national security operatives for allegedly attempting to install a rival chief at Awutu Kwashie Abbey in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region.

According to police intelligence, the suspects were intercepted while carrying out an unauthorised enstoolment ceremony in defiance of the authority of the recognized chief, Nai Kwashie Abbey VII.

Their arrest triggered tensions in the town, as supporters of the incumbent chief besieged the police station, demanding the release of the suspects and threatening violence.

The situation escalated until a military vehicle (registration number 52 GA 62) arrived at the scene with reinforcements to secure the release of the detained personnel.

In the aftermath, the Asafo group loyal to Nai Kwashie Abbey VII condemned the attempted installation, accusing elements within the state security apparatus of meddling in chieftaincy affairs.
