Ashanti Regional Minister vows to enforce Sanitation laws for a cleaner region
To sustain the fight against unsanitary conditions, Dr. Amoakohene announced plans to reintroduce sanitation guards who will enforce cleanliness and instill discipline among residents.

Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has issued a strong warning to residents against indiscriminate littering as he spearheads efforts to restore Kumasi’s cleanliness.
Once celebrated as the "Garden City," Kumasi is now plagued by heaps of waste clogging drains, market centers, and residential areas, creating an environment ripe for disease outbreaks.
As part of Ghana’s 68th Independence Day celebrations, Dr. Amoakohene, in collaboration with Zoomlion Company Limited and community members, led a clean-up exercise targeting key areas, including Manhyia, Aboabo Station, and Alaba Market. These locations, notorious for plastic and organic waste accumulation, were selected due to their vulnerability to flooding.
Speaking to the media after the exercise, Dr. Amoakohene underscored the dangers of plastic pollution and its role in exacerbating floods in the city.
“We are working towards a lasting solution to the flooding problem, which is why we chose these areas for the clean-up. They are among the most flood-prone locations in Kumasi,” he explained.
Emphasizing the importance of proactive measures ahead of the rainy season, he added, “On this Independence Day, we are desilting choked gutters to free ourselves from poor sanitation.”
To sustain the fight against unsanitary conditions, Dr. Amoakohene announced plans to reintroduce sanitation guards who will enforce cleanliness and instill discipline among residents.
“We will take a more radical approach against those who dump refuse in drains. This behavior is unacceptable, and offenders will face legal consequences,” he warned.
The Minister reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that environmental offenders are held accountable, vowing that the law will take its course to maintain a cleaner and healthier region.
