Ashanti Health Admnistrators undergo training on medical negligence
Held at the Presbyterian Hospital in Agogo, the event brought together Health Service Administrators from a diverse range of institutions—including facilities under the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), teaching hospitals, and private medical centres.

Amid rising concerns over medical negligence and growing medicolegal risks in Ghana’s healthcare system, the Ashanti Regional branch of the Association of Health Service Administrators, Ghana (AHSAG), has organised a high-level Continuing Professional Development (CPD) workshop to address institutional liability and promote patient safety.
Held at the Presbyterian Hospital in Agogo, the event brought together Health Service Administrators from a diverse range of institutions—including facilities under the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), teaching hospitals, and private medical centres.
The workshop focused on equipping administrators with strategies to prevent avoidable harm to patients and reduce exposure to legal suits linked to healthcare delivery.
Presiding over the event was Rev. Ezekiel Amadu Daribi, General Manager of the Asante Akyem Area Health Service and National President of AHSAG. In his address, Rev. Daribi urged participants to lead with integrity and diligence, emphasizing that a blend of professionalism and moral leadership is essential to improving healthcare outcomes.
The session featured a presentation by Lawyer Francis Kwaku Acheampong, who educated attendees on legal vulnerabilities in healthcare management. He warned that incidents of medical negligence—including surgical errors and diagnostic failures—are on the rise and highlighted the legal responsibilities of healthcare administrators.
“Administrators must ensure strict compliance with relevant legal frameworks, particularly Section 30 of the Ghana Health Service and Teaching Hospitals Act 525. Leadership is not just about oversight, it’s about safeguarding lives,” Lawyer Acheampong stressed.
Adding to the call for better coordination, Mr. Roland Welaga Miah, Municipal Director of Health for GHS, advocated for stronger collaboration between Health Service Administrators and Municipal or District Health Directors to ensure efficient healthcare delivery at the local level.
Also speaking at the event, Ashanti Regional AHSAG Chairman, Mr. Kuupil Benjamin, who serves as Administrator of the Effiduase Government Hospital, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the workshop. He urged all members to put the insights gained into practice and to remain vigilant in upholding standards that protect patients and institutions alike.
As healthcare delivery evolves alongside rising public scrutiny and legal accountability, AHSAG’s initiative underscores the vital role of administrators in maintaining professional standards and minimizing clinical risks.
