Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has officially removed Nana Amofa Twumasi II, the chief of Mpasaaso No. 2 in the Ashanti Region, from his position following multiple accusations, including his alleged involvement in illegal mining activities.

The decision was made after the chief was summoned before the Asanteman Kumasi Traditional Council at Manhyia Palace.

His 41-year tenure came under scrutiny due to concerns over his questionable royal heritage and failure to properly serve his community and traditional authorities.

The primary reason for his removal stemmed from his role in illegal mining, an activity that has significantly damaged the environment, particularly the local water bodies. The Asantehene underscored that such actions undermine the values and traditions of Asanteman, stating that chiefs are duty-bound to safeguard the land and uphold the laws of their people.

In recent times, the Manhyia Palace has taken decisive action against traditional rulers implicated in illegal mining, reinforcing its commitment to preserving the environment and protecting the cultural integrity of the Ashanti Kingdom.
