Arise Ghana Demo: Police clash with protesting demonstrators, three reportedly arrested

Officers of the Ghana Police Service have clashed with Arise Ghana protestors on Tuesday afternoon after Police responded to the throwing of stones from some protestors with teargas and water canons.

Some officers sustained injuries and police vehicles were shown destroyed in photos shared by the police on social media. 

According to reports, the protest turned chaotic after disagreements between police and organisers on routes of their convergence. 

Reports have it that three persons have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the tensions that ensued. 

The Police Service on its social media pages, have called out the protestors, describing the turnout of events as “shameful.”

“What a shame, we were there to protect you and ensure your safety, but you throw stones at us, injure and hurt us. This behaviour is unacceptable and must be condemned,” it said both on Facebook and Twitter. 

Organisers of the demonstration have meanwhile stated that they are not calling off the protest, and that they may follow with their earlier plan of a night demonstration. 

 “That 4 pm is only in the minds of Akufo-Addo and his biased judges. We are demonstrating. As and when we feel like going, we will leave here,” One of the organisers, Edem Agbana is reported as saying.
