Appointees who breach Code of Conduct risk prosecution– Attorney-General warns

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has issued a stern reminder that political appointees under the current administration who violate the newly launched Code of Conduct could face both dismissal and criminal prosecution.
Speaking in an interview on Monday, May 5, 2025, after President John Dramani Mahama unveiled the Code in Accra, Dr. Ayine emphasized that the directive is not symbolic but enforceable.
"Once you violate the Code, you will be sanctioned," he said, making it clear that disciplinary actions could escalate to legal consequences depending on the severity of the misconduct.
He pointed out that criminal behaviour would not be swept under the rug simply because the offender holds office. “Where actions cross into criminal territory, it falls within the Attorney-General’s mandate to initiate legal proceedings and ensure justice is served,” he stated.
Dr. Ayine also reaffirmed that the code’s enforcement will be impartial and not limited to political convenience. “We cannot continue with a system where only former officials are brought before the law while current ones are shielded,” he said, warning that such double standards would undermine public trust.
Calling for integrity within government, he encouraged all appointees to live by the values outlined by the President. “We’ve been given a clear path to follow. I sincerely hope I won’t have to investigate colleagues, but I won’t hesitate to act if necessary,” Dr. Ayine concluded.
