The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Jinapor has indicated that his office will this week, inform the public on actions to be taken following the release of the report by the Appiate Explosion committee.

Mr. Samuel Jinapor said he has received two reports from the Minerals Commission and the Benjamin Aryee committee tasked to look into the incident.

“I have received a report from  the Minerals Commission and a three-member committee I constituted to undertake independent investigations into the matter, and I have begun acting on these recommendations. In the course of this week, we will be updating the nation on some of the consequential actions following the report of the investigations,” he said.

The 3-member Committee tasked to investigate the circumstances leading to the Explosion at Appiatse near Bogoso in the Western Region presented its report to the Minister on February 1, 2022.

The Ben Aryee chaired Committee was charged to among other things, ascertain whether or not the Minerals and Mining Explosives Regulations LI 2177, section 107 and 105 were complied with by the Mining Company.

In an earlier set of actions, two mining companies, MAXAM Ghana Limited and Joycederk Logistics had their licenses suspended to allow what the Ministry termed, ‘a fair and impartial investigation’ into the circumstances of the explosion.

The explosion killed at least 14 people and wounded about 179 people and destroyed about 500 homes.
