An anti-corruption activist, Mr. Vitus Azeem believes that the mandate of the Office of the Special Prosecutor is to chase corruption but not perception.

He notes that it is not enough to show that a particular government institution is more corrupt than others without going beyond the perception league table

In an interview with Citi News, he further mentioned that corruption perception rankings are not taken seriously in Ghana and expressed doubt as to whether it will achieve any result.

Speaking during a media engagement at the Kempinsky Hotel in Accra on December 9, 2021, to mark International Anti-Corruption Day, the Special Prosecutor, Mr. Adjebeng noted that his office will institute an annual corruption League table to rank Ghana’s Public sector against each other on a corruption barometer from January 2022.

He indicated that this move, which forms part of his outfit’s pressure-for-progress drive will assess perceived levels of public sector corruption in the estimation of experts and business people.

Additionally, he indicated that the OSP will review and conduct anti-corruption risk assessments on major public contracts and legislation to nip in the bud, the prevalence of judgment debts, and arbitrary awards.

‘The OSP would carry out anti-corruption risk assessment and review of all major public contracts, legislation, and draft legislation. This is intended to avoid toxic deals and the prevalence of judgment debts and arbitral awards,’’ he indicated.
