An 18-year-old suspect who police say had been on the run after a violent theft at Korleman has been remanded by the Amasaman Circuit Court.
Haruna Tahiru Mohammed, also known as “Star Boy,” pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy, unlawful entry, stealing and assault. He is expected back in court on 7 May 2026.
Prosecutors say the case dates back to 10 November 2024, when businessman Geoffrey Akpabli and his wife left home for church, leaving behind their 68-year-old grandmother, Elizabeth Ntem.
According to the prosecution, two men entered the house at about 10:00am intending to steal. The elderly woman was allegedly overpowered, silenced with cloth and threatened while the intruders searched the premises.
Police told the court that items allegedly taken from the house included a Lenovo laptop, an Acer tablet phone, a pump-action gun, GH¢5,600 in cash and quantities of baby food.
The prosecution also says the two suspects entered a neighbour’s room and stole an additional GH¢10,300 before fleeing.
Residents reportedly chased them after learning of the incident and managed to arrest one suspect, Liassidji Kofi Godwin, while Mohammed escaped.
Godwin was later identified by the elderly woman as one of the attackers. Police say some of the stolen items were recovered from his sleeping place, while others were later found in a bag, though the cash and gun were missing.
During investigations, Godwin allegedly named Mohammed as his accomplice. He was subsequently convicted and sentenced to 13 years in prison with hard labour.
Mohammed, according to the prosecution, was later seen again at Korleman on 13 April 2026, arrested by the complainant with the help of residents and handed over to the police.
The case was heard before Ms Susanna Nyakotey, with Chief Inspector Frederick Awuah-Ansah leading the prosecution.
