Amasaman court jails car thief five years
The conviction followed his own admission that he unlawfully entered the residence of Mr. Emmanuel Gideon Debrah and made away with the vehicle along with a pair of trousers containing car keys and GH¢150 in cash.

A 21-year-old man, Baba Hardi, has been sentenced to five years in prison with hard labour by the Amasaman Circuit Court after pleading guilty to stealing a Toyota Corolla S valued at GH¢140,000.
The conviction followed his own admission that he unlawfully entered the residence of Mr. Emmanuel Gideon Debrah and made away with the vehicle along with a pair of trousers containing car keys and GH¢150 in cash.
Presiding over the case was Justice Enid Marful-Sau, a High Court judge with concurrent responsibility at the Circuit Court. The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Frederick Awuah-Ansah, detailed the events leading to the arrest and conviction.
The complainant, Mr. Debrah—an Information Technology Specialist residing in Amasaman—discovered the theft on the morning of April 8, 2025. Upon waking around 5:30 a.m., he noticed that his window mesh had been tampered with and that his trousers, keys, and cash were missing. Shortly afterward, he realized his parked Toyota Corolla, bearing registration number GT 3044-22, was also gone.
He reported the theft to the Amasaman Police, prompting a region-wide alert. Later that same day, the Police Intelligence Directorate at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra intercepted Baba Hardi in possession of the stolen vehicle and a pair of scissors, which authorities suspect were used to aid the theft.
Hardi was apprehended while attempting to sell the vehicle. Upon his transfer to the Amasaman Police, he confessed to the crime during interrogation. After a brief investigation, he was formally charged and brought before the court.
The court, considering his plea and the facts presented, imposed the custodial sentence, marking a swift conclusion to the case.
