A 24-year-old fetish priest, Kwabena Appiah Agyei, along with two others, has been placed in police custody by the Asante Akropong Circuit Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District over allegations of stealing communication cables at Mfensi, near Akropong.
The other suspects, identified as 20-year-old network installer Eric Kusi and 22-year-old electrician Emmanuel Ampofo, have also been remanded. Their plea has not yet been taken, and they are scheduled to reappear before the court on March 5, 2025, to respond to charges including conspiracy, unlawful entry, causing damage, and theft.
During court proceedings, Police Detective Inspector Alexander Agbekpornu stated that the complainant, Friday Anwakpa, serves as the Ashanti Regional Director for Glo Communication Network (Ghana) Company Limited.
According to the prosecution, Eric Kusi (A1) resides in Mfensi, while Emmanuel Ampofo (A2) and Kwabena Appiah Agyei (A3) live in Tepa, located in the Ahafo-Ano North District.
On January 28, 2025, the complainant reportedly received a call informing him that some individuals had entered the Glo Tower office in Mfensi, posing as engineers conducting routine maintenance. However, they were allegedly stealing wire cables from the facility.
Following the report, officers from the Akropong Police, in collaboration with the Abuakwa Divisional Police Patrol team, responded swiftly to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the suspects inside the company's premises with four bundles of stolen cables, valued at GH₵240,000, prepared for transportation.
During police interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to their involvement. Eric Kusi (A1) was said to have contacted the other two from Tepa, and together they executed the act. Investigations revealed that A1 climbed a 900-foot communication tower using their equipment, causing damage estimated at GH₵20,000. He then cut the wire cables, which were bundled into four coils before their arrest.
After gathering evidence, authorities charged the three suspects and presented them before the court. The case is set for further proceedings in early March.
