Akosua Serwaa Fosu, widow of celebrated highlife icon Charles Kwadwo Fosu, better known as Daddy Lumba, has taken legal action against Kofi Owusu Fosu, head of the late musician’s external family, and Priscilla Ofori Atta, popularly called Odo Broni.

The suit, lodged at the Kumasi High Court on October 3 2025 and expected to be heard on October 16, seeks a series of declarations affirming Mrs Fosu as the only lawful spouse of the late artiste and the sole person entitled to perform widowhood rites.

Daddy Lumba died on July 26 2025. His extended family has since scheduled the final funeral rites for December 6 2025 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi—an arrangement Mrs Fosu says was made without consulting her or their children.

In court filings, the plaintiff recounts that she and the musician were legally married in Germany at the Civil Marriage Registry in Bornheim and shared three children—Calvin Kwadwo Fosu (31), Charlyn Fosu (24), and Ciara Fosu (20). She maintains that their marriage remained valid under German law when her husband passed away.

Mrs Fosu claims she has been excluded from funeral preparations and informed by the family head that she would not be allowed to perform widowhood rituals, a role traditionally reserved for the legal wife. She further alleges that Odo Broni, who surfaced after Lumba’s death asserting she was also his spouse, has been endorsed by the family to take part in those rites.

According to the writ, both defendants have continued with funeral arrangements without her consent, even issuing invitation cards listing Odo Broni’s contact details.

Mrs Fosu is therefore petitioning the court to:

Recognize her as the sole surviving spouse of the late musician.

Confirm her exclusive right to perform widowhood rites.

Restrain Kofi Owusu Fosu from acknowledging Odo Broni as a spouse.

Prohibit Odo Broni from publicly presenting herself as Daddy Lumba’s wife.

She argues that without the court’s intervention, she will be unfairly denied her rightful status as Lumba’s legally wedded wife and excluded from the final funeral proceedings.
