Police in the Ahafo Region have arrested three suspects after recovering firearms, ammunition and a drone in what officers believe may have been preparations for a robbery.

At a briefing in Goaso, the Ahafo Regional Police Commander, DCOP James Annor, said two of the suspects, Johnson Mawutor, 26, and Kelvin Ofori, 22, were picked up late on Sunday, 22 February 2026, during a patrol operation.

He said officers from the Regional Taskforce Patrol team spotted the pair riding an unregistered motorbike on the Ayomso–Goaso road at about 23:30.

Police say the men tried to avoid interception by switching off the motorbike’s headlights and attempting to escape, but were chased and arrested.

A search, officers said, uncovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with 29 rounds, concealed in a bag the suspects were carrying.

DCOP Annor said subsequent enquiries led police to a residence at Abrodanho, a suburb of Goaso, linked to Mr Mawutor. A further search there, he said, produced two additional pistols, including a Beretta Bruni (Mod.92), as well as ammunition said to include 9mm rounds and more AK-47 rounds.

Police also reported finding four Motorola handsets, a Contiso F35 drone, a machete and a bayonet-style knife, which investigators believe could be linked to planned criminal activity.

The regional commander said preliminary investigations suggest the weapons may have been acquired earlier that day in Techiman in the Bono East Region, allegedly involving Mr Mawutor, Mawuli Dogba, and another suspect, Mohammed Adinan Ussif, who remains at large.

Police say efforts are underway to trace Mr Ussif and identify any other accomplices.

The three suspects currently in custody are expected to appear in court on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, DCOP Annor said.

He appealed to residents to continue sharing information with police, saying public cooperation remained critical to preventing violent crime and protecting businesses.
