The Upper Bobikuma Police are on the hunt for a 48-year-old farmer, Stephen Alartey, who is accused of murdering his wife and daughter in Esaase, a village near Upper Bobikuma in the Agona West District of the Central Region.

According to information provided to the Ghana News Agency by police, Alartey allegedly used a cement block to fatally strike the heads of his wife, Aku Motso, 37, and their 7-year-old daughter, Ophelia. He reportedly fled the scene after committing the crime.

The incident occurred on Thursday, December 12, 2024. On that day, Alartey reportedly requested that his wife and three children, who had been staying with their grandmother in Agona Kwaman, join him at his home in Esaase near Bobikuma.

Instead of taking the usual bush path to the village, Alartey allegedly led his family down an unfamiliar route. Along the way, he is said to have attacked his wife and daughter with a cement block, killing them instantly.

A hunter in the area reportedly heard screams and approached the scene. When the hunter arrived, Alartey asked him to accompany him to the police station to report the incident. However, the suspect insisted that the hunter take the lead, which the hunter reluctantly agreed to do.

Tragically, Alartey found another cement block and struck the hunter on the head, rendering him unconscious. He then used a cutlass to slash the hunter, inflicting a deep wound, before stealing the hunter's firearm and fleeing.

The injured hunter was later found and taken to the hospital, where he is currently receiving medical care.

Meanwhile, two of Alartey’s children, who witnessed the horrifying event, managed to escape and alert the authorities. The police arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the report.

Alartey remains at large, and the Bobikuma Police are appealing to the public for information that could lead to his capture. The bodies of the deceased have been transported to the Agona Swedru Municipal Government Hospital for autopsy.
