Agbogbloshie traders to be arraigned in court for defying sanitation orders
The arrests came during a swoop by the Clean Ghana Task Force on October 29, 2025, following repeated warnings to traders to relocate and adhere to basic hygiene and waste management regulations.
Several traders at the Agbogbloshie Market are set to be arraigned in court after being arrested for flouting sanitation directives under the government’s Clean Ghana Campaign.
The arrests came during a swoop by the Clean Ghana Task Force on October 29, 2025, following repeated warnings to traders to relocate and adhere to basic hygiene and waste management regulations.
According to Florence Kuukyi, Director of the Clean Ghana Campaign, the task force’s intervention was necessary as many traders continued to operate in unsanitary conditions, blocking drains and creating potential health hazards.
Kuukyi stressed that the task force would intensify enforcement until full compliance was achieved across all major markets in Accra.
Gilbert Ankrah, spokesperson for the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), urged the media and the public to support the campaign, noting that sustained market cleanliness requires collective responsibility.
The Clean Ghana Campaign, led by the AMA, has been ramping up operations in key commercial areas such as Agbogbloshie, Makola, and Kantamanto, as part of its strategy to enforce sanitation by-laws, curb indiscriminate dumping, and promote environmental hygiene.
Officials said the latest swoop forms part of a renewed effort to combat disease outbreaks and safeguard public health, reiterating that habitual offenders will face strict legal action to deter future violations.
