The Privileges Committee of Parliament has served notice that it will summon the Dome Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo to appear before it on July 6, 2022, via publication in the relevant media.

According to Committee, this comes after attempts to reach the Honorable member of Parliament have failed.

It notes that the summon forms part of its work referred to it by the Speaker of Parliament pursuant to Article 97(1) of the Constitution and Orders 15 and 16(1) of the Standing Orders of Parliament.

The release dated June 14 further states that the Committee has employed all available means both official and unofficial to serve the MP with an invitation letter, including sending an invitation to her office and pigeonhole in Parliament, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, where she superintended as sector minister, her official email addresses, known social media handles and through her Personal Assistant.

The statement further notes that the Hon Member for Dome Kwabenya may choose to honor the summon via zoom.

There’s been wide dissatisfaction and uproar, especially among the Majority caucus of Parliament relative to the absence of the MP for Dome Kwabenya who happens to be a sector Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection.

Her absence specifically became an issue in the round-up to the passage of the Electronic Transfer Levy which required the Majority to garner the numbers.

There were therefore wide views expressed and publications relative to the reasons for her absence from the country with even some colleagues of her calling for her dismissal or resignation.

Hon Adwoa Safo and two other MPs were thus summoned to appear before Parliament’s Privileges Committee due to their long absence from the House.
