A total of twenty-two(22) programmes being run by the Accra Technical University had their accreditation certificates expire for the period ranging from March 2019 to December 2021.

Also, it's been revealed that the University had no legal title to its Kinbu campus and Cantonment lands which were acquired in 1960.

This is according to the Auditor General in its 2021 Report on the Public Accounts of Technical Universities.

Section 36 of the Education Regulatory Bodies act, 2020(Act 1023) states that a person who runs or advertises a tertiary education programme that is not accredited; commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of not less than ten thousand penalty units or a term of imprisonment of not less than fifteen years and not more than twenty years, or both.

The Auditor General has therefore recommended to the Management take urgent steps to resolve any outstanding issues to ensure full utilization of the facility.

On the issue of the expired accreditation certificate, the Auditor General wants Management to expedite action in getting accreditations for all programmes without further delay.

Further to the above, it is urging the Management of the University to ensure that the legal titles to the parcel of land are secured as early as possible by liaising with the appropriate state agencies.
