Accra Academy has turned over a student to the police after a disturbing bullying incident surfaced online, triggering public outrage.

A viral video showed a student assaulting a peer with a machete, prompting swift action from the school’s administration. In an official statement, the school assured parents and guardians that immediate steps were taken to address the situation.

According to school officials, the incident took place on January 17, 2024, but remained unreported until the video gained traction on social media.

The school identified four students—three in their final year and one first-year student—as being involved in the incident. The victims, all first-year students, were also named in the internal report.

As a disciplinary measure, the school has instructed the perpetrators, who are all day students, to stay off campus while authorities conduct further inquiries.

“The students involved in this incident have been asked to stay away from school until investigations are concluded,” the statement added.

Preliminary findings revealed that the machete used was not a school-issued item but had been brought from home.

The school’s disciplinary committee is currently reviewing the case and has assured stakeholders that they will be updated on any further developments.
