The Ghana School of Law has officially inducted the 2024/2025 batch of 1212 students from its various satellite campuses in Accra.

The ceremony, which was held at the Makola main campus on January 17, was graced by Methodist University Vice-Chancellor Professor Philip Ebow Bondzi-Simpson, who was the special guest of honor, Justices of the Superior Courts, National President of the Ghana Bar Association, Mrs. Efua Ghartey, among others.

In his address, the Director of the Ghana School of Law (GSL) and Justice of the Court of Appeal, Barima Yaw Kodie Oppong, urged newly admitted students to fully embrace the ethical principles guiding legal education.

He reminded students that once they are called to the Bar, they will be expected to uphold the highest moral standards and navigate complex ethical challenges in their legal practice.

Delivering the keynote speech, Professor Philip Ebow Bondzi-Simpson, Vice-Chancellor of Methodist University, reinforced the importance of ethics in legal education.

Professor Bondzi-Simpson also spoke against the growing trend of legal professionals engaging in unethical political debates. He discouraged students from resolving academic disputes through political or media interventions, warning that such individuals could later resort to similar tactics in legal disputes.

He further expressed concern over the intemperate language used by some lawyers affiliated with Ghana’s major political parties, urging the new students to uphold professionalism in both their speech and conduct.

On her part, the President of the Ghana Bar Association, Mrs. Efua Ghartey, congratulated the inductees on their admission and reminded them that the legal profession is one of the most esteemed and time-honored fields. She stressed that maintaining ethical integrity is crucial for preserving public trust in the legal system and preventing malpractice.
