62nd Ordinary Session of the African Court to be held on September 6th
The African Court is a continental court that was set up by AU member states per Article 1 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
The 62nd Ordinary Session of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights is set to commence from September 6 to October 1, 2021.
This will take place at Arusha in the United Republic of Tanzania.

The African Court is a continental court that was set up by AU member states per Article 1 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
After more than 15 states ratified the protocol setting up the African Court in Burkina Faso, it came to force on January 25, 2004.
The Registrar of the Court, Dr.Robert Eno, indicated in a statement that the court has jurisdiction over all cases and disputes that have been submitted for the interpretation of the charter on Human Rights and People’s rights.
Specifically, the Court has two types of Jurisdiction. They are; contentious and advisory. The Court will focus on protocols and instruments ratified by concerned states.
Further to the above, the statement noted that the court has the power to receive cases filed by states parties of the African Commission of Human and Peoples’ Rights.
Additionally, individuals and NGOs with observer status before the African Commission can also initiate direct cases before the court once that state involved has deposited the Article 34(6) declaration that recognizes the jurisdiction of the African Court.
