2 doctors, 2 nurses interdicted over alleged refusal to care for deceased emergency patient
In a statement issued on Monday, 23 February 2026, the hospital said the four staff had been temporarily relieved of their duties while an inquiry takes place.
Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has interdicted two doctors and two nurses as it investigates claims that a critically injured road crash victim was denied emergency treatment before he later died.
In a statement issued on Monday, 23 February 2026, the hospital said the four staff members had been temporarily relieved of their duties while an inquiry was underway.
Management said a committee has been formed to establish the facts and determine whether emergency care procedures were followed. Staff linked to the case have been instructed to cooperate fully with investigators.
The move follows public outrage over reports that the victim, 29-year-old engineer Charles Amissah, was turned away by multiple facilities while being transported by ambulance after a hit-and-run in Accra.
Mr Amissah, who worked with Promasidor Ghana Limited, sustained serious shoulder injuries in the incident at the Circle Overpass on 6 February 2026, according to the hospital.
Emergency medical services personnel stabilised him and arranged for transfer, but reports suggest he could not be admitted at the Police Hospital, Ridge Hospital or Korle Bu, allegedly because there were no beds available.
The hospital said the patient later went into cardiac arrest at Korle Bu. CPR was performed, but he could not be revived and was pronounced dead.
Korle Bu said it would provide further updates when investigations are completed, adding that it remained committed to accountability.
