The Accra Circuit has sentenced a 19-year-old student of Keta Business College to 30 months in prison for defrauding a Ghanaian based in the UK while in an online relationship.

On Facebook, Obed Dzorgbenyui is said to have disguised himself as a female nurse from the Ho Technical University.

Using the name Adehe, Police Prosecutor Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Fuseini Yakubu told the court the accused secretly recorded the nakedness of the victim during a WhatsApp video call.

In a series of blackmails, the accused is said to have demanded $833.33 in Bitcoin, and an iPhone 11 Pro.

When the accused appeared before the court the first time in September 2021, he was charged with three counts of sharing intimate images without consent, sexual extortion, and defrauding by false pretence.

He however pleaded guilty to only the charge of defrauding by false pretence.

The prosecution team later decided to withdraw the charge of sharing intimate images without consent and sexual extortion after he had pleaded guilty to the charge of defrauding by false pretence.
