'Pragia' rider jailed seven years for defiling 13-year-old girl

A 23-year-old commercial tricycle rider has been sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment by the Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court for defiling a 13-year-old Junior High School student.

Nicholas Adjarlolo was convicted on a charge of defilement of a female under 16 years.

The court, presided over by Mr Kwasi Appiatse Abaidoo, found him guilty under Section 101(2) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960, Act 29.

The case was reported to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service on July 24.

ASP Nana Akomeah, the Somanya District Police Commander, told the court that the complainant is a 41-year-old trader and mother of the victim.

Both the complainant and the child live at Sawer, a suburb of Somanya.

According to the prosecution, the complainant reported that her daughter had left home at about 10:00 p.m. on July 23 and had not returned.

She later received information that Adjarlolo had taken the child to his room at Sawer.

The complainant then went to the accused person’s residence with police officers.

They found Adjarlolo in the room with the minor.

Both were taken to the police station to assist with investigations.

The prosecution said a medical form was issued for the victim, and the medical report later confirmed sexual activity involving her.

During investigations, Adjarlolo admitted having sexual intercourse with the child.

He claimed she was his girlfriend and told police they had been in a relationship for about two months.

He also admitted having sexual intercourse with her on two occasions.

Adjarlolo was subsequently charged and put before the court.

He was convicted and sentenced to seven years in prison.
