A Circuit Court in Accra will on Monday, February 21, 2022 rule on the application by Counsel for Ghanaian rapper Samuel Adu Frimpong, popularly called Medikal for the release of his gun.

During the last sitting, counsel for the rapper, Bobby Banson prayed the court to release his client’s Ruger nine-millimetre pistol for his protection because the same was acquired lawfully.

Also according to counsel, the prosecution had not demonstrated that it would rely on the gun for the trial since the charge against him was not unlawful possession of the pistol thus arguing that it was a breach of the musician’s right for the prosecution to continually detain the gun.

On its part, the prosecution led by an Assistant State attorney, Mr Samuel Adu Gyamfi in opposing the application, noted that the gun was the subject matter of the offence thus would be relied on as evidence for prosecution.

Additionally, the prosecution indicated that the accused had not demonstrated to the court why the gun should be released to him especially when the offence for which he was being trial centred around the gun.

After listening to both sides, the presiding judge deferred the ruling on the application to Monday, February 21, 2022, thus adjourning proceedings.

When he appeared in court on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, the “too risky” hitmaker, represented by counsel; prayed the court for an order to the police to release her client’s gun which was in their possession.

Also, the counsel made it known to the court that her client has not been served with processes and disclosures to enable him to mount his defence.

On his part, the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Dennis Terkpetey pleaded for an extension of time to enable his outfit to file the processes, disclosures et al and duly serve the same on the accused.

The Judge, His Honour Emmanuel Essandoh told counsel for the accused to submit to the court, a formal application relative to the release of the gun.

The popular hiplife artist was arrested in October 2021 after he allegedly brandished a weapon in a video that was widely circulated on social media.

He has meanwhile pleaded not guilty to the charge of displaying arms and ammunition.
